The real world is all about work-life balance and college is the perfect time to start practicing. Between trekking to class, managing an internship, and socializing, it’s easy to lose track of your priorities—no one wants to be the intern that slept through her alarm because she pulled an all-nighter for a history exam she forgot about. Below are three secrets for finding the perfect school-life balance so you can work hard and still find time for fun.

Avoid procrastination at all costs. We’ve all found ourselves organizing our closet for hours to put off studying for an exam. When you finally have found the motivation to crack open a book, you probably don’t even know where to begin. This type of behavior becomes an even bigger problem at an internship. The solution? Aim to get ahead of your work. Being on top of things will ease your stress levels and make life easier for the future you. Remember that the sooner you get your work done, the more time you have to hang out with friends or binge-watch Netflix. The choice is yours.

Master your schedule. Events. Meetings. Study groups. Happy hours. There are so many things you could be doing at college. Take the time to update your calendar with items you definitely want to make time for like your class schedule, important assignment due dates and special events. Seeing all of your responsibilities in one place will keep you organized and on top of deadlines, especially when your social calendar begins filling up.

Make time for self care. In a world that encourages jam-packed schedules, it’s important to make time time for yourself. Whether it’s a mani, a yoga class or a solo walk in the park, it’s super important for your well-being to take a step back from work and school obligations and focus on you. Doing so not only keeps stress at bay, but will also allow you to come back refreshed and ready to tackle a new to-do list.
