Summer Wardrobe Essentials For Every Editor — And Under $100

April 27, 2017 by Katherine Louie

The way you dress for work does make a difference. The right clothing choices will give you the confidence to take on your day and prove to your boss that you can look the part as well. An article in The Wall Street Journal made the case by noting, “a small fashion adjustment can have big results” (read the article here).

These summer pieces are versatile, transitional, and most importantly reasonably priced. So go ahead and indulge yourself.

The Japanese Go Weave Pull-On Skirt, $85, Everlane

This classic black skirt is equal parts comfortable (elasticized waist) and classic. The length is perfect for work, as it hits right at the knee, and the fabric has a subtle texture to it which adds interest. Made completely of triacetate, it’s also wrinkle resistant.

The Striped Tank Top, $49.50, Madewell

Finally, a tank that you can wear to work. This 100% cotton tank has subtle stripes that won’t overwhelm your outfit should you decide to pair it with something slightly bolder. Wear this with everything and anything.

The Pom Pom Shift Dress, $89.00, Ann Taylor Loft

This dress proves that an LBD doesn’t have to be boring. Keeping with the trend of flared sleeves, this dress goes one step further by adding small pom pom trim. This is the perfect dress for post-work networking events.

The Triple Strap Block Heel, $36.94, Old Navy

With a heel height of three and a half inches, this heel can easily take you from a day at the office to a much needed happy hour. The faux leather upper looks and feels like real leather, and the cushioned footbed make this shoe incredibly comfortable. For the price of $36 you can buy this in all four colors.

Cropped Button Down Shirt, $59.50, Lou & Grey

This shirt is all about the details—soft, hand-washed cotton, sleeves with button cuffs, a cropped front and back yoke. This easy button down is perfect for air conditioned offices and breezy summer walks during your lunch break.

Athena Top, $85, Sezane

This silk top, available in three colors, is the perfect layering piece for spring and summer. Layer it under a blazer, cardigan or moto jacket. The covered buttons and scalloped neckline dress up an otherwise simple piece.

Silk Ankle Pants, $69.00, Grana

With their light and airy feel, these pants will be on steady rotation during the coming months. They are available in twelve striking colors, as well as different lengths (short, regular, long). Dress these pants up with a blazer and funky jewelry.

Dramatic-Sleeve Sweater Top, $79.50, J.Crew

This sweater is constructed of lightweight cotton so you can comfortably wear this piece well into the summer months. Most office spaces are well air-conditioned, so the extra sleeve length will be much appreciated. Available in three colors.
