In front of all whippersnappers, Ed and his very talented helpers do solemnly swear to (try to) keep all of the following professional New Year’s resolutions…bring it on, 2014!
Chandra Turner, Founder & President: I resolve to commit to memory the instructions for how to post a video on my mag’s blog. Why does it have to be so complicated? I also resolve to bring my lunch one day a week (Chop’t is killing my budget), and sell or give away all the Ed2010 tote bags clogging up my office cabinet!
Cheryl Brody Franklin, Vice President: To finally create my personal website. It’s always on my “to-do” list, but I never made it a priority. Now that I’m claiming it’s my resolution on Ed, I’m officially motivated to make it happen!
Christie Griffin, Web Editor: To change my work password before the computer system locks me out! IT sends me these really earnest emails so far in advance that I ignore them, and then all of a sudden it’s three weeks later and I’m locked out of my computer! I have to start taking emails like that more seriously.
Ariana Finlayson, Features Editor: I resolve to give the cold shoulder to lunch and dessert leftovers from big wig meetings, just the way I would to an ex boyfriend. (I DON’T NEED YOU!) Also, to integrate myself within the agency more.
Ale Foresto, Assistant Features Editor: To leave work at work. I find myself checking email and thinking about what I need to write the next day while at dinner or the gym. I vow to stop worrying about things that can be done the next morning! And to stop eating all the chips that come into the office for our food editor!
Sarah Bruning, Whispers Manager: I resolve to sit with better posture — and figure out how to permanently change my user color for notes in InCopy/K4. (Call me crazy, but I really want it to match my pen color!)
Diana Vilibert, Ed on Campus Associate: I resolve to take more real lunch breaks during the workday, if only to reduce the amount of crumbs accumulating in my keyboard. Also, I resolve to never procrastinate on a deadline again… starting tomorrow!
Christine Mattheis Allyn, Web Associate: I resolve to stay on top of my overflowing inbox and to stop losing important emails. I need to remember that Time Inc.’s email system automatically clears all messages that are more than 30 days old!
Lindsay Tigar, Buddy System Director: I want to give Buzzfeed a challenge with awesome headlines, and resolve to try (try!!) to not take off my shoes as soon as I get in, sit cross-legged in my chair and cover myself completely in a blanket… But my office would have to change its temperature settings.
Michelle Profis, Job Poster: To unplug more. Running several social media accounts, it’s tempting to check likes, re-pins, and RTs after hours and throughout the weekend, but I’d like to try and enjoy my time away from my computer a bit more.
Ashley Oerman, Tweeter: To never stop eating the free treats that make their way into the office, especially the cupcakes.
Ashley Ross, Ed at Large: In 2014, I resolve to keep my weekly magazines in pristine shape rather than tossing them folded into my purse for a good subway read.
Jessica Derschowitz, Job Poster: I resolve to go to more of the happy hours and other out-of-office get-togethers that my colleagues organize. No excuses: it’s not too cold out, it’s not too far from my apartment, and there’s nothing on TV that my DVR can’t record. I also resolve to become a social media powerhouse in 2014 — tweet and Instagram all the things!
Lauren Piro, Web Associate: I resolve to keep my desk free of piles of press samples (somehow gift-guide season lingers throughout the year in my cube!).
Francesca Soroka, Ed at Large: I resolve not to let a single email sit unread for more than an hour. I vow not to put off research, either. Inevitably when I slip off the wagon, it will coincide with deadline changes, flu season, a free ticket to L.A., or the world’s greatest party, which I will have to vicariously attend through Snapchat and Vine.
Maryn Liles, Deputy Events Director: I resolve to stop deleting unopened PR emails. This year, I at least have to click on them! 😉 And I’m going to take a walk around the block on my lunch break every day… as long as it’s not raining.
Elizabeth Lilly, Book Club Co-Director: I resolve to start using all the home stuff I get from the free table, and to make at least one of awesome salvage projects from our This Old House step-by-steps.
Allison Berry, Job Poster: I resolve to be cooler on social media. It’s time to suck it up and realize not a lot of people actually care about my dog getting a new outfit.
