While searching for full-time jobs in the mag or fashion industries, many post-grads are finding themselves forced to accept internships for months before landing an entry-level position, neither of which pay the bills, or student loans for that matter.
With fashion trends changing faster than Kylie Jenner’s hair color, it can be difficult to maintain a chic wardrobe on a limited budget. For all you whippersnappers, I’ve styled three looks (casual, work, and party) using two pieces I consider the most versatile staples: a camel coat and a tube skirt.
A camel coat is as necessary an object as a good pair of jeans or black leather jacket, and tube skirts are a slightly more relaxed answer to the basic pencil skirt. The stretch makes it sporty enough to pair with sneakers, but classy enough to wear to the office. Win, win.
Casual Cool
For the weekend, I love keeping it causal with neutral basics. Opting for solids guarantees multiple wears per piece and a foolproof look for when you’re on the go. My favorite thing to do right now is to top the outfit off with a beanie (topped with a pom, of course).
Work Chic
My philosophy when it comes to business attire: The fewer pieces you introduce into the look, the fewer opportunities for a disasters a.k.a. a fashion faux pas. Stay with solids and focus on a cool accessory. Sleeveless turtlenecks elongate the form, and you can’t go wrong with a black pump and a classic addition like a great bag or timepiece.
To take this look out, opt for a cropped top in a fun texture, such as velvet. I like to wear all black since it’s slimming and ALWAYS chic. Choose a statement necklace that creates contrast with your top and can even be reflected in your makeup. A flick of gold shimmery shadow over a smokey eye does the trick. For a good post-work pump, you are always safe with a small platform and a slightly rounder toe.
