The Talent Fairy’s Editorial Hiring Report 2023 survey was conducted via social media from November 17 to December 31, 2022. Of the 278 who took our survey, 32% reported having worked in editorial/content for 20+ years; 23% for 11–20 years; 36% for 3–10 years; and 9% for 3 years or fewer. Nearly 30% work for a media brand/publisher; 27% for a non-media brand; 15% are freelancers/entrepreneurs who work mainly with media clients; 12% are freelancers/entrepreneurs who work mainly with non-media clients; and 16% are out of work. Roughly 33% say they work primarily in digital editorial; 22% in content marketing, 13% in print editorial; 10% in marketing; 7% in books; 4% in communications/PR/thought leadership; and 11% in other areas. 79% identify as White/Non-Hispanic; 6% as Black; 7% as Hispanic/Latino; and 8% as Asian, Middle Eastern, or other. 13% identified with having a physical, emotional, hearing, mental, visual, or other disability.
